Form Your Foundation

HI FRIENDS!

Happy new year and thank you for stopping by to check out my new blog. I figured I would dive right in and tell you a little bit about who I am, what I do for a living, where I am from/where I do business, and why I have made the decision to start this blog, Form Your Foundation.

First off, my name is Kimi Pohlman and I am a millennial real estate agent and freelance softball consultant doing my best to navigate a world that craves human connection, yet is seemingly dependent on technology. First and foremost, I am a lover of Jesus. I am also a daughter, sister, friend, dog mom, gym enthusiast, bargain shopper, chips and salsa lover, and avid mall walker.

I was born and raised on the Sammamish plateau, just 30 minutes east of Seattle. The area I grew up is what many Seattleites refer to as “The Eastside” which is a very common term in my vocabulary both personally and professionally. The Eastside is where I currently live and do business. I have also lived on the eastside of Washington State (i.e. Spokane) as well as in various parts of the country (Chicago and Dallas). I have loved having the opportunity to experience living in other parts of the country, but I love being back home in the pacific northwest.

So, why did I decide to start this blog?

Quick backstory…

In recent years, life presented me a fresh start, so I sat down in front of a huge white board and started to brainstorm things that I was passionate about. Between my love for Fixer Upper/my desire to be Joanna Gaines, my affinity for home decor and fashion, and the amount of time I spent scrolling through properties on Redfin, a pattern started to appear. Despite having no knowledge, experience, or connections in the industry, it was in that moment that I decided that real estate would be the best way for me to combine my passions while also serving the community that formed me into the person I am today.

I had never bought a house, nor was I even familiar with the process of doing so prior to embarking on my real estate journey. I learned, through personal experience, that studying for your license only exposes you to a small portion of the information necessary to truly learn the home-buying process. Even now, I feel as if I am in the same shoes as many first-time homebuyers, just with a little bit more of a real estate foundation.

I want to be a resource for everyone, but especially for those who are unfamiliar with the process and who need an advocate. Nowadays technology provides a platform for visibility to available properties and basic information about them, but it doesn't supply your most important asset; an authentic, empathetic, professional to facilitate the experience, while keeping your interests at the forefront of the process. That’s where I come in.

I wanted to start this blog as a resource to relay important industry-related information to those outside of the real estate world. I have loved the opportunity to answer questions from friends, family and acquaintances regarding the process of buying or selling a home, industry trends, inspiration, or future home-buying goals and I thought what better way to share my passion and experience with even more inquiring minds than through a blog?

So, where did the inspiration for the name Form Your Foundation come from? Well, I briefly mentioned that, in addition to being a real estate agent,  I am also a freelance softball consultant. What this entails is that that parents, teams, or individual organizations hire me to privately train their softball players. When mentoring young athletes about the importance of being intentional, purpose, and character, I found myself aligning my own practices with the values simultaneously.

Through this opportunity to coach softball players, on top of my own athletic experience over the years, the importance of a strong foundation became a significant.  A foundation in life, similar to a house, is essential in being able to build on top of it. Whether those building blocks entail physical walls of a home, career goals, life goals, or personal goals, the foundation is the crucial starting point in ensuring the success of the latter.
